ENGLISH COMMENDS MAUI COUNTY COUNCIL FOR QUICK APPOINTMENT OF DANNY MATEOÊTO FILLÊVACANT MOLOKAIÊCOUNCIL SEAT

(Hana) Senator J. Kalani English, Senate Majority Floor Leader (D-5th Senatorial District) today expressed his appreciation for the expeditious manner in which the Maui County Council conducted public hearings and appointed Danny Mateo to fill the vacant council seat of the late Maui County Council Chair, Patrick S. Kawano of Molokai. ÊAccording to English, prior to his death Kawano had expressed his desire for Danny Mateo to finish out his term because "Danny has an in-depth knowledge of council operations as well as issues affecting Maui county and the island of Molokai". English further noted that "the Council's 7-1 vote approving Danny's appointment, indicates their strong support and confidence that Danny is the most qualified to step into the shoes of Kawano for the remainder of his term".

Senator English extends his congratulations to Danny Mateo as Maui County's newest council member and looks forward to "working with him as a colleague on the many issues facing Maui, Molokai, and Lanai".
