EMERGENCY ENVIRONMENTAL WORKFORCE BILL PASSES UNANIMOUSLY THROUGH WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE
This afternoon Senate Majority Floor Leader J. Kalani English (D—Wailuku, Kahului, Upcountry Maui) saw SB 2900 passed unanimously through the Committee on Ways and Means. Senator English said, "The passing of this bill is critically important in maintaining the progress the emergency environmental workforce has made towards preserving the health of our ecosystem, and the unanimous vote in support of SB 2900 shows that my colleagues agree on this vital legislation."
SB 2900 makes an appropriation to continue the efforts of the emergency environmental workforce established after last year's Third Special Session. These trained crews are actively working to remove breeding areas for mosquitoes that can carry dengue fever, and are eradicating alien species threatening our island environment.
Senator English added, "I worked with the crews in Hana, and fully appreciate the hard work involved. This workforce tackles their job aggressively and effectively, and the positive results are reflective of their dedication to the objectives of the program. The State needs this program to continue its essential work."
