Molokai kumu Yonemura named teacher of the year

Linda Yonemura receives "Teacher of the year" honors for Maui County along with her State Senator, J. Kalani English

Moloka'i's state Senator J. Kalani English presented Linda Yonemura with Maui County's 2006 Teacher of the Year award today, with an honorary certificate in the Senate Chambers.

In remarks on the Senate floor, Sen. English said, "Her students know her as a teacher whose philosophy is based on positive feedback and support. She has been an inspiration for generations."

Linda Yonemura has taught business education at Moloka'i High School for her entire career. She teaches grades nine through 12.

District Teachers of the Year are selected by the State Board of Education for "a superior ability to inspire love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities."

"Dedicated teachers like Linda Yonemura make an enormous contribution to our state," Sen. English said, "and it's a privilege to be able to recognize her for her record of achievement."
