What an incredible boost to read on the March 5 front page of The Maui News that a bill banning water additives is moving forward in the Legislature.
So many of us in Upcountry Maui were harmed by the pouring of C9 (zinc orthophosphate) without warning us of possible side effects. If some homes have lead pipes, let those owners deal with the chemicals. I have PVC pipes like many others. No lead at my place. I shouldn't have to deal with the harmful fumes of any chemical additive. We were treated like guinea pigs by the Department of Health and I resent that.
Sodium fluoride is also harmful to our bodies. Let individuals use it if they choose to, I don't want to drink it. Many countries who once had it in their water have banned its use. Once it is in our water basins, it cannot be removed.
No drinking water on our island should be used to deliver chemicals for medical or dental purposes. Mahalo to Sen. J. Kalani English and Rep. Sol Kaho'ohalahala for protecting us from the DOH.
I wholeheartedly support the absolute ban on all additives to my drinking water. I'd like to know who is lobbying the DOH on these additives. Who's making a profit out of this? So far, this information is unknown to the public. Let's get this out in the open.
Sen. English and Rep. Kaho'ohalahala will get my vote every election for their courageous stand against those good ol' boys in the DOH who are certainly not good guys at all.
