Sen. English Tapped for Leadership Fellowship

WAILUKU – State Sen. J. Kalani English has been selected for a fellowship to the Flemming Leadership Institute, a program that offers training to legislators in their first or second terms.

Selection is competitive, and is based on leadership ability, dedication to public service and a commitment to finding practical policy solutions to problems, according to the Center for Policy Alternatives, which founded the institute.

English joins 30 lawmakers from around the country in a program that includes two retreats during the course of 2003.

"I hope to translate this into positive public policy back home in Hawaii," English said.
