Hawaiian senator in Tahiti to fight AIDS

Hawaiian senator J. Kalani English arrived, Saturday May 25th 2002, in Tahiti to fight AIDS. He will stay one week to heighten awareness to the disease.

Kalani English met minister for Health Armelle Merceron and, tuesday May 28th 2002, Faa'a mayor and leader of the pro-independence Tavini Huiraatira party, Oscar Temaru.

He should also meet the president of the government of French Polynesia, Gaston Flosse, saturday June 1st 2002.

Kalani English has helped work with the "Maui Aids Foundation". He would like to see a real partnership between tahitian and hawaiian associations fighting AIDS.

"We came to deal with this very sensitive issue. We believe that prevention and information are good ways to fight the disease", said Kalani English.
